Tree Frog

DSCN9941

1. Make the frog base.

DSCN9943

2. Fold the right flap of paper over to create a smooth diamond shape. Repeat on the back side of the base.

DSCN9944

3. Fold the sides of the paper inward, like so.

DSCN9950

4. Repeat Step 3 on the remaining three smooth paper surfaces.

DSCN9951

5. With the top layer only, bring the bottom of the paper upward.

DSCN9955

6. Next, smoosh the paper between the folds on either side of it. This is similar to how you would create the crane’s next and tail.

DSCN9956

7. Bend the paper like so, and crease it so that the arm jutting out from the side folds in on itself. This step is very similar to how you would create the crane’s beak.

DSCN9958

The result of Steps 5 -7 should look like this.

DSCN9963

8. Repeat Steps 5 -7 on the flap of paper to the left of the arm you just made. (Tip: Do not try to position the arms directly across from each other at this point in the process. They will move into place when you go on to create the frog’s legs.)

DSCN9966

9. After you have created the frog’s second arm, fold the flaps of paper over so that the arms are across from one another, and the remaining two flaps of paper are facing downward, like so.

DSCN9967

10. Repeat Steps 5-7 on one of the lower flaps of paper.

DSCN9970

Tip: Make sure to crease the paper near the bottom of the frog’s body.

DSCN9972

11. Repeat Steps 5-7 on the other leg.

DSCN9974

12. Make additional folds on the frogs arms and legs to add detail. (Tip: Fold in the opposite direction of the way the paper is resting. Make one upward fold on each arm, and one downward fold then one upward fold on the frog’s legs.)

DSCN9978

13. Hold the frog by its back legs and blow air into the small opening in the paper.

DSCN9979

Your origami tree frog is complete!

Frog Base

DSCN9913

1. Begin with a square base.

DSCN9915

2. Make sure the open end of the base is facing downward. Then, fold one of the sides into the middle, like so.

DSCN9916

3. Use your finger to slightly open the fold.

DSCN9919

4. Make a squash fold.

DSCN9922

5. Repeat Steps 2 – 4 on the remaining three flaps of the square base.

DSCN9924

6. Fold the sides of the top layer of paper inward, like so. Then, undo these folds.

DSCN9925

7. Insert a finger into the space in the middle of the frog base and carefully begin to move it upward. This step is similar to completing Steps 5 and 6 of the crane base.

DSCN9928

After you complete Step 7, your frog base should look like this. (Tip: It’s okay to be a little bit forcefully with the paper when trying to smooth out the top part of the interior diamond. I’ve also found that using my fingernail to strongly crease the upper corners of the interior diamond really helps to shape it correctly.)

DSCN9935

8. Repeat Steps 6 and 7 on the remaining three squash-folded layers of paper, and your frog base is complete!

DSCN9875

2. Carefully bring the bottom of the rectangle up to the top of the rectangle.

DSCN9877

3. Squash fold the sides of the rectangle so that they make small triangles. (Tip: Line up the creases in the triangles with the center line of the fold you just made in the rectangle.)

DSCN9879

4. Repeat Step 3 on the reverse side of the paper.

DSCN9881

5. Using the center line as a guide, fold the layers of paper over so that both sides look like this.

DSCN9886

6. Fold the sides of the top layer of paper into the middle.

DSCN9889

7. Repeat Step 6 on the reverse side.

DSCN9893

8. Fold the tip of the top layer of paper downward.

DSCN9896

Lotus Flower

DSCN9793

1. Fold the paper in half vertically, then unfold. Do the same horizontally. (The Lotus Flower is very similar to the lotus blossom, but a little bit more difficult.)

DSCN9794

2. Fold the corners into the middle of the paper, using the creases from Step 1 as guidelines.

DSCN9797

3. Fold the corners into the middle again.

DSCN9802

4. Flip the paper over.

DSCN9807

5. Fold the corners into the center of the paper one more time.

DSCN9810

6. Slightly, but firmly, bend the corners of the paper forward.

DSCN9816

7. Very very carefully, bring the flap of paper from the back side around to the front. (Tip: Make another, larger fold like what you did for Step 6 and gradually smooth it out as you bring the back side of paper to the front.)

DSCN9821

This is what the result of Step 7 should look like. It’s very easy to rip the paper, so just be patient as you complete this step.

DSCN9823

8. Repeat Step 7 on the remaining three petals.

DSCN9829

9. Turn the flower over. Very carefully, unfold the four triangular flaps you see in the picture above.

DSCN9830

10. Congratulations! You’ve made an origami lotus flower!

Lotus Blossom

DSCN9843

1. Begin by folding your paper in half vertically. Unfold, and do the same thing horizontally.

DSCN9845

DSCN9849

3. Fold the paper’s corners in to the center again.

DSCN9852

4. Flip the paper over. Fold the corners into the center one more time.

DSCN9853

5. Next partially unfold the folds you just made. Crease them just before the paper’s edge.

DSCN9855

After you complete Step 5 you Lotus Blossom should look like this.

DSCN9857

6. Flip the paper over. It should look like this.

DSCN9859

7. Fold the center square flaps upward so they look like triangles.

DSCN9862

8. Repeat Step 7 on the next layer of squares in the center of the paper and your Lotus Blossom is done!

Camellia

DSCN9616

1. Start with the colored side of your paper facing down. Fold the paper diagonally, open and repeat on the opposite diagonal. Your paper should have an x-like crease across it.

DSCN9620

2. Fold one side of the paper into the center line, like so.

DSCN9622

3. Fold the next side down to its center line.

DSCN9625

4. Lift up the corner flap of the paper so that the white underside is touching the edge of first fold that you made.

DSCN9626

5. Fold the flap backwards slightly, so that the white underside is creased at the edge of the first fold. The edge of the corner will stand up slightly when you do this.

DSCN9627

6. Squash fold the edge of the paper like this. You should still be able to see the white underside of the paper touching the first fold you made.

DSCN9629

7. Next, fold in the side of the paper closest to the squash fold so it touches the center line. The new fold will cover the squash fold you just made.

DSCN9630

8. Repeat Step 4, lining up the white underside of the new fold with the edge of the last squash fold you made.

DSCN9631

9. Repeat Step 5.

DSCN9632

10. Repeat Step 6, making a second squash fold.

DSCN9637

11. Fold the last side of the paper upward. It will cover the second squash fold you made.

DSCN9638

12. Repeat Steps 4 – 6 as depicted below.

DSCN9640

DSCN9641

DSCN9643

13. Next, take the squash fold you just made and fold it upwards, like so.

DSCN9644

14. Carefully, unfold the side of the camellia like this.

DSCN9646

15. Use the crease lines to carefully begin to fold the left side of the paper inward.

DSCN9647

Continued picture of Step 15.

DSCN9654

After you have completed Step 15, your camellia should look like this.

DSCN9656

16. Repeat Steps 4 -6 on the last corner of the camellia. (Continued depictions below.)

DSCN9657

DSCN9659

Your camellia should look like this after you complete Step 16.

DSCN9664

17. Fold the third squash fold back down to its original position.

DSCN9668

18. Tuck the corner of squash fold 3 under squash fold 4, and tuck the corner of squash fold 4 under squash fold 1.

DSCN9669

19. Crease the tips of all of the squash folds like so, and your origami camellia is complete!
